The “Bippers” spent the entire day at Ekebergsletta to support Karanba’s two soccer teams that participating in Norway Cup, the world’s largest youth soccer tournament. We showed up with Karanba/Bipper banners and flags in addition to tons of Karanba/Tele2/Bipper T-shirts that the fans couldn’t get enough off. Even Bipper’s opponents, their parents and the refs managed to get hold of a few.
It was so exciting to get to meet all the players and take part in their joy, not only for winning, but also for the game and the experience. Their enthusiasm is infectious and their ability to entertain impressive. It was also nice to see Tommy again. Tommy- I really admire your drive and your commitment. Being an idealist myself I can relate. Working 24/7 without much pay is difficult, but the there is a lot of joy and inspiration to be found in what you are achieving. In many ways I miss this in the “business environment” I now work, but to be part of Karanba, gives me that fantastic feeling again. I will do whatever I can to support Karanba going forward. I also encourage others to do the same!
Karanba, for those who doesn’t know the story, is an initiative started by Tommy Nilsen, a former professional soccer player from Norway. A serious knee-injury ended his career at an early age and he decided to go to Brazil.
Here, he started Karanba since he considered it his life’s obligation to give something back to soccer, the sport which had given him everything
The goal is to provide poor boys from the slums of Rio, who has no future, an opportunity for one and he has been funding this out of his own pocket. He has eventually been able to attract more resources to help him realize the goal, which is to create a permanent facility where teenagers can escape the slums and come to play soccer and get an education
Bipper is very proud to be part of this amazing imitative and encourage other to support them as well.
